About This Digital Archive

This site is the Iowa Genealogical Society’s growing home for digitized historical materials. Its purpose is simple: to make more of the Society’s collections accessible to members wherever they are, while preserving the original records held in the library.

Materials on this site come from many different parts of IGS’s holdings. Items are scanned, indexed, and organized so members can browse, search, and explore information that once required an in-person visit. As additional resources are digitized, they will be added here—expanding access to records that document Iowa’s people, families, and communities.

Every item includes basic descriptive information to support genealogical research. Details vary depending on the source material, but the goal is always the same: to help researchers find connections, follow clues, and learn more about the stories behind the records.

This digital archive will grow steadily over time. Members who spot errors, can supply additional context, or hold information that enriches a record are encouraged to share it with the Society. The strength of genealogy comes from many hands and many voices contributing to preserve our shared history.
